IND U19 vs UAE U19: Vaibhav Suryavanshi misses out on a double century, fails to break Ambati Rayudu's 23-year-old record

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the rising star of the Indian cricket team, shows no signs of stopping. This 14-year-old left-handed batsman, whenever he gets a chance, rains runs. He's become accustomed to smashing bowlers as soon as he arrives, and on Friday, he wielded the bat, and at one point, it seemed he would score a double century, but fell short.

Vaibhav was close to scoring a double century against the UAE in the Under-19 Asia Cup. Uddis Suri prevented him from achieving the feat by bowling him out. Vaibhav played an innings of 171 runs off 95 balls, laced with nine fours and 14 sixes. Had he scored a double century, he would have become the first batsman to score a double century in the Under-19 Asia Cup. This is India's first match of the tournament, and Vaibhav has already created a storm in his debut match.

Ambati Rayudu's record remains intact.

Vaibhav also missed becoming only the second batsman to score a double century in an Under-19 ODI. South Africa's Jorich Vanslawyk is the only batsman to score a double century in Under-19 ODIs. He scored 215 runs off 153 balls against Zimbabwe on July 25, 2025, in Harare. Vaibhav could have broken Ambati Rayudu's record with this innings, but fell just seven runs short.

Rayudu holds the record for the highest individual score in an Under-19 ODI for India. The former right-handed batsman scored an unbeaten 177 runs off 114 balls against England on August 30, 2002. Had Vaibhav scored just seven more runs, he would have surpassed Rayudu.
