Tensions with China have been increasing since the US House of Representatives Speaker Nassie Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. China is constantly doing its military exercises in this Laga. Its sole purpose is to intimidate Taiwan. Taiwan is home to the losers from China. After the defeat years ago, the people who settled on this island made it powerful and prosperous. There is also a dispute between China and Taiwan since then.
China's expansionist policy has always dominated the governments there. Amid disputes, an imaginary line drawn between Taiwan and China, the Mandarin Line, separates these two. This line was drawn in the year 1955 by General Benjamin O Davis Jr., of the US Air Force. In addition to World War II, Benjamin played an important role in the Vietnam War, the Korean War, and the second Taiwan Strait dispute. He was also the first African American brigadier general of the US Air Force.
In December 1998, then President Bill Clinton made him a four-star general. During World War II, he was the commander of the 99th Fighter Squadron of the US Air Force. His father was also the first Black Brigadier General of the US Air Force. This line drawn by him is in the middle of the Taiwan Strait. There was a consensus between China and Taiwan that no one would cross this line. China also followed it till 1999. But, after that China refused to accept this line.
After Nancy visits Taiwan, he is so shocked that he does not even want to listen to anything related to this line. China's military spokesman had clearly said recently that China does not believe in any median line drawn in the Taiwan Strait. China has never officially recognized this line. This line is also known as Devis Line. At present, Chinese ships cross this line almost every day and move forward. Taiwanese officials say that by doing this, China wants to pressure Taiwan to surrender.
The Taipei Times says Taiwan can't abandon the idea of this line. Taiwan's Foreign Minister has made it clear that if China wants to change it, then it will also be answered. Taiwan will never tolerate change in this. He has spoken of strengthening relations with other countries of similar views so that its defense can be ensured.
The President of Taiwan is currently calm about China's new strategy. He says that he will not take any provocative action. But that also does not mean that he will accept any change in this line. American warships also pass through this line. It is also a direct indication that this is an international line, from where one can go unhindered. The narrowest part of the Gulf of Taiwan is about 180 km wide, where China conducted live fire drills, and the midline is about 25 km from Taiwanese waters.
In the year 2020, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in a statement flatly refused to acknowledge its existence. Taiwan's national policy think tank Chieh Chung believes that China's non-acceptance of this line has increased the risk of deepening the dispute. For this, Taiwan should allow its Coast Guard and Army to respond. Experts believe that it is impossible to resolve the China-Taiwan dispute at the moment. One of the major reasons for this is the stubborn attitude of China.
