Vote counting began at 10 am in 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra. However, the results of the BMC elections in Mumbai may be delayed this time. The changes made to the vote counting process could extend the time it takes to get initial trends and final results.

Counting of votes for the 227 electoral wards of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation began at 10 am on Friday at 23 centers. Previously, counting took place simultaneously in all wards, but this time it is being done in a phased manner. Instead of counting votes for all wards at once, only two wards are being counted at a time.

Due to this change, counting could only begin in 46 wards at 10 am. This will cause a delay in the announcement of the BMC election results.

Strict Security Arrangements

Strict security arrangements are in place at the counting centers. CCTV surveillance and a computerized system are being used to ensure the transparency of the entire process. The strong rooms and counting centers are under the supervision of 23 returning officers.

It is worth noting that a total of 1,700 candidates are in the fray for the 227 wards of Mumbai, India's richest municipal corporation.
