The pace of coronavirus vaccination is increasing rapidly in India. Meanwhile, the President of the Central Government's Covid-19 Working Group (NTAGI) Dr. NK Arora has announced that the vaccination of children between 12 and 14 years of age in India can start in March. He said by then the immunization of adolescents in the age group of 15 to 18 years is expected to be complete. In such a situation, children are expected to be vaccinated in the next phase.
According to Dr. Arora, there are 75 million people in the age group of 15-18 in the country. Out of this 3.45 crore, teenagers have got the corona vaccine. Since the teens are being given Covaxin, they will also be given a second dose of vaccine within 28 to 42 days. That is, the vaccination of the 15-18 age group will be completed by March. After this, vaccination of children between 12 and 14 years can be started in full swing.
By the end of January, the 15-18 age group will get the first dose of the vaccine.
He said, “Adolescents in the age group of 15 to 18 are actively participating in the vaccination process, and considering this pace of vaccination, the remaining beneficiaries in this age group are likely to receive the first dose by the end of January and thereafter. His second dose is expected to be given by the end of February."
Arora said that once the age group of 15-18 years is vaccinated, the government may take a policy decision in March to start the vaccination campaign for the age group of 12-14 years. He informed that the estimated population in the age group of 12-14 years is 7.5 crores.
More than 157 crore vaccine doses have been given in the country so far.
According to the vaccination report till 7 am on Monday, more than 39 lakh doses were given in 24 hours taking the total number to over 157.20 crores. According to government data, more than 3.45 crore first doses have been administered to 15-18-year-olds so far. The Covid vaccination campaign in India started on 16 January last year.
