Cyclone Alert: IMD warns of the cyclonic storm, heavy rain warning in South Konkan-Goa

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Thursday, saying that the low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea could turn into a cyclonic storm by 16 May. Due to this, heavy rains are forecast at some places in Goa and South Konkan region. The IMD said that the Southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area has become a low-pressure area today. It is likely to intensify in the Lakshadweep area by Friday morning.

 

The IMD said in a warning report that it would turn into a zone of deep pressure in the same region by Saturday morning and would take the form of a cyclonic storm in 24 hours thereafter. He told that he was likely to move towards north-northwest Gujarat and the Pakistani coasts. IMD reported that it could reach near the Gujarat coast by the evening of 18 May.

 

Chance of heavy rain on Sunday-Monday

IMD said that due to this, there will be light to moderate rain in many places in South Konkan and Goa region on Saturday and heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places on Sunday and Monday. According to the department, 64.5 millimeters to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Rain is considered to be heavy rain.

 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast in Saurashtra and Kutch

Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts fall in the south Konkan region of Maharashtra. Similarly, after May 17, there will be rain on the Gujarat coast. On May 18, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast in Saurashtra and Kutch. Due to cyclonic storms, the region is expected to receive rain with winds running at a speed of 50 to 80 kilometers per hour in the next five-six days.
