Toxic smog continues to wreak havoc in the capital, Delhi. Major areas like India Gate and Kartavya Path recorded an air quality index of 267, which falls in the "poor" category. The situation is even more difficult in areas like Anand Vihar and ITO, where the AQI exceeded 325, which is classified as "very poor."
According to the Central Pollution Control Board, a thick layer of toxic smog looms over these areas. According to recent reports, air quality in various parts of Delhi is at a worrying level.
Air quality drops from very poor to poor after 24 days
Residents of the capital, who had been breathing toxic air amid an Air Quality Index (AQI) above 350 for 24 consecutive days, got some relief on Sunday morning when the AQI dropped below 300 to 279.
Like Delhi, Noida in the NCR also recorded an AQI of 279. Greater Noida recorded an AQI of 268, Ghaziabad 256, and Gurugram 245. Faridabad's air was the cleanest, with an AQI of 176, which falls under the moderate category.
According to the Decision Support System for Air Quality Management in Delhi, vehicular pollution accounted for 18.614% of the air. Furthermore, pollution from stubble burning was 0.967%, construction activities 2.805%, peripheral industries 3.679%, and residential areas 4.574%.
According to the CPCB, winds blew from the northwest at a speed of 5 kilometers per hour on Sunday. The estimated maximum mixing depth was 1000 meters. The ventilation index was 7000 meters per second. Meanwhile, the PM10 concentration in the air at 4 pm was recorded at 224.7 micrograms per cubic meter, and PM2.5 at 119.1 micrograms per cubic meter.
Meanwhile, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has predicted that the air quality will remain in the very poor category until Monday. This will cause problems for respiratory patients. People may also experience eye irritation.
