An anti-encroachment drive near the Faiz-e-Ilahi mosque in Delhi's Turkman Gate area turned violent. The Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) had launched the operation late at night following directions from the Delhi High Court. However, local residents protested against the drive, leading to the situation spiraling out of control. A mob of protesters pelted stones at the police and the MCD team. This violent incident created a tense atmosphere in the area.
The police acted swiftly to bring the situation under control. Five police officers were injured in the stone-pelting incident. Taking the matter seriously, the police have registered an FIR, and the process of identifying the rioters is underway. Based on preliminary investigations and CCTV footage, several rioters have been detained and are being interrogated. The police have stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in the incident. The anti-encroachment drive was being carried out on the orders of the court, but some people resorted to violence, challenging law and order.

Central District DCP Nitin Valsan said, "MCD officials came with a JCB machine at night. We informed the people that it was a court order and that they could appeal against it. They did appeal, but they did not get a stay order. 25-30 people pelted stones at the police. In retaliation, we used force to push them back. Five police officers were injured in the stone-pelting. They sustained minor injuries. We have registered an FIR under the relevant sections and have detained five people. The demolition work is being carried out by the MCD. As much work as was supposed to be done has been completed, and the work is still ongoing." We also deployed drone cameras yesterday, and we are checking all the cameras.'
