DU students protest outside Delhi Secretariat

New Delhi, Feb 17 (IANS) Over 50 students from Delhi University's School of Open Learning (SOL) Tuesday staged protest outside Delhi Secretariat demanding regular evening classes.

Students from 28 DU colleges started their protest around noon demanding that they be provided regular evening classes as their exams are near.

In their over one-hour-long protest, the students, who are pursuing correspondence courses from DU's SOL, also demanded passes in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and new colleges in the capital.

The protestors, who later submitted a memorandum in the office of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, also demanded that libraries of government colleges should be open for them so that they can study properly.

Under the banner of Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), the protestors raised slogans in favour of their demands.

Asked if it was not too early to protest against the new government, KYS convenor Dinesh Kumar said: "We know that it is early and we are ready to give time to the new government."

Dinesh Kumar, however, said: "The exams are very near and we want that regular classes should be started soon in all those 28 colleges of Delhi government which are affiliated to Delhi University."

"If the regular classes start, the students pursuing correspondence courses from SOL will be benefitted," he said.

Kumar said there should be more new colleges as the number of students has been increasing every year.
