Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Supreme Court for bail in the excise policy case. Arvind Kejriwal on Monday filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking release from jail in the excise policy case. In the petition, he challenged the order of his arrest and remand by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Apart from this, he has also filed a regular bail petition in the case. News agency ANI has given this information quoting the legal team of Aam Aadmi Party. It is noteworthy that the Delhi High Court recently rejected his petition challenging the arrest by the CBI and asked him to go to the trial court for bail.
ED arrested Kejriwal on March 21
Kejriwal has been in custody since March 21 after his arrest by the ED. During this, in May, the apex court granted 21 days of interim bail to the Delhi CM for the Lok Sabha election campaign.
At the same time, on July 12, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Kejriwal in the ED case, acknowledging that he had spent more than 90 days in jail. However, he remains in custody since his arrest by the CBI on June 26 in the same case.
Sisodia has been granted bail by the Supreme Court
The petition was filed two days after the Supreme Court granted bail to former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the excise policy case. While releasing Sisodia on bail on August 9, the Supreme Court had said that his 17-month-long imprisonment and his continued detention in a case in which there is no hope of the trial ending soon violates Sisodia's fundamental right to liberty and speedy trial under Article 21 of the Constitution.
