The sudden blockade on the expressway has prompted the Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police to divert traffic to alternate boundaries like Anand Vihar, Bhopura, and Apsara. Officials of the Uttar Pradesh administration and Delhi Police are discussing with the protesting farmers to reopen at least one carriageway. Farmers protesting at the UP Gate border have taken over the carriageway and service road of the expressway leading from Ghaziabad to Delhi since starting their agitation last month.
This is the second time since Monday afternoon that the expressway has been completely blocked by farmers, with farmers alleging that many farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand were barred from moving beyond Delhi's borders and joining the agitation I went.
