Interim PM Mohammad Yunus has joined the third Global South Summit being held on August 17 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi and Mohammad Yunus had a phone conversation yesterday. This is the first time after the change of power in Bangladesh that the leaders of both countries are coming together on a platform. India started the Global South Summit to strengthen the voice of the developing countries of the world after getting the presidency of G20. India also strongly raised the voice of the backward and developing countries called Global South in the G20 summit held in September 2023. This virtual summit is being organized for the third time under the leadership of India in which heads of more than 100 countries are participating.
PM Modi addressed the conference
Addressing the Global South Summit, PM Modi said that it became a platform where we openly discussed the problems and priorities related to development. He said that India prepared the G20 agenda based on the hopes, aspirations, and priorities of the Global South.
PM Modi said, "When India assumed the presidency of the G20, we resolved that we would give a new shape to the G20." He further said, "We are meeting at a time when the world is living in uncertainty. War-like situations have increased challenges in our development journey. We are already facing the challenges of climate change. We are also worried about health, food, and energy security. Terrorism, extremism, and separatism are serious threats to our society."
The Prime Minister said that this is the time when the countries of the Global South should unite and become each other's strength. We have to learn from each other's experiences and share each other's capabilities. India is committed to cooperating with the Global South and sharing its experiences and capabilities. We want to promote trade, inclusive growth, the progress of SDGs, and women-led development.
PM Modi said that his mission for health security is 'One World, One Health' and his vision is 'Arogya Maitri', which means 'friendship for health'. During a humanitarian crisis, India is the first to help its friendly countries.
