Good news has come for the world troubled by the food crisis, by the war between Russia and Ukraine. On Monday, a large shipment carrying 26 thousand tonnes of maize departed from Ukraine's Odesa Port. It will reach Istanbul Port in Turkey on Tuesday. It will be examined there, after which it will be sent to Africa.
The war between Russia and Ukraine started on 24 February. Since then Ukraine has stopped food exports because Russia was attacking its ports. Recently, after the intervention of Turkey, there was a Green Pact between Russia and Ukraine. Under this, food export was agreed to stop the growing food crisis in the world.
UN also intervened
UN and Turkey have jointly made this green pact between Russia and Ukraine. Both Russia and Ukraine play an important role in food supply to many countries of the world including Africa. This is the reason why many poor countries in Africa were at risk of starvation. Russia was targeting Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea. Because of this, the grain of Ukraine was not being exported from there.
According to media reports, after an investigation in Turkey, this shipment from Ukraine will be sent to Lebanon. Africa will also get some part of it. Russia has promised in the agreement that it will not attack any food shipments.
The world will get a big relief
A Ukrainian official said- We are the fourth largest exporting country in the world. It is very important to pave the way for food security out of the food crisis. Ukraine understands its responsibility. Turkey's Defense Minister Hulusai Akar said – Officers of Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and the UN will be present in Istanbul. The shipment will be checked in front of them. After that, it will be allowed to proceed.
Akar said- If we did not try like this, then after 150 years the world would have become a victim of starvation. Now it should be tried that somehow this war also ends. There should be no place for war in this century.
22 million tonnes of reserves
According to a report by the UN and the World Bank, Russia and Ukraine have 2.2 million tonnes of grain and other agricultural products reserves. They are not allowed to leave the Black Sea because of the war. After the departure of the first shipment on Monday, it is expected that soon this agreement will be completed and the world will get relief from the food crisis. Because of this, the risk of migration was also increasing.
The Black Sea Grains Initiative Pact was signed between Russia and Ukraine on 22 July. Under this, Ukraine will be able to export wheat and maize. At present, this agreement is for four months. If the situation is better then it will be taken forward.
