Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed a webinar on the topic "Energy for Sustainable Growth". He emphasized the use of solar, hydrogen, LED bulbs. Along with this, the steps taken by the government for sustainable energy were also counted. Modi asked to install a solar tree in the garden or balcony of the house so that these solar trees help in saving 10-20% electricity of the house. Officials from different ministries and state governments as well as industry representatives and other experts participated in the webinar.
In his address, the Prime Minister said that energy and sustainable growth are inspired by our age-old traditions and are the way to meet the needs and aspirations of the future. We believe that sustainable growth can only happen through sustainable energy. We have promised to reach Net Zero in Glasgow by 2070. I spoke of Life Mission to promote a sustainable lifestyle in COP-26.
Up to 50% energy from fossil sources by 2030
By 2030, our target is to get 50% of the energy from fossil sources. This time in the budget, we have announced Rs 19,500 crore for manufacturing high-capacity solar modules. We have also announced a National Hydrogen Mission. The hydrogen ecosystem is linked to the fertilizer, refineries, and transport sectors. The PM also requested the private sector to work in this area.
Need to make more energy-capacity ACs, heaters, and geysers
Energy storage is also a big challenge along with renewable energy. We have also given priority to the storage capacity. In this year's budget, we have made several provisions for battery swapping policy and interoperability standards. Energy-saving and production are essential for sustainability. We need to do a lot more to make more energy-capacity ACs, heaters, geysers, and similar devices in India.
The government gave 37 crores LED bulbs to the poor
The cost of an LED bulb used to be Rs 300-400. Our government increased its production, it reduced the cost. We have given about 37 crores LED bulbs under UJALA, which has resulted in a lot of electricity, money for the poor, and a reduction in carbon emissions. We have prepared four pilot projects for coal gasification and have also promoted the use of ethanol.
Huge market for solar gas start-ups
We need to modernize our sugar mills and distilleries. Our energy demand is continuously increasing and thus, India needs to shift towards renewable energy. We also need to advance clean cooking. Solar gas can be a huge market for our start-ups.
Need to develop solar tree at home
We can develop a new concept of a solar tree for every family in the garden or balcony of the house, this solar tree can help in 10-20% electricity of the house. It will also become the identity of the house that the house with the solar tree is the home of environmentally conscious citizens.
