
Recently, Karnataka actress Ranya Rao was arrested at Bengaluru airport in the gold smuggling case. In this case, Ranya has now confessed her crime in a statement given to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). According to a report by CNN-News18, in her first statement to the DRI, Ranya admitted that 17 pieces of gold were recovered from her possession.

Ranya also admitted that she not only travelled to Dubai but also travelled to Europe, America and Middle East countries. After this, Ranya refused to say anything. She asked the officers to let her rest.

The actress is the stepdaughter of Karnataka State Housing Corporation Director General of Police Ramachandra Rao. The actress was arrested by the DRI at Bengaluru International Airport on Monday evening. She allegedly tried to avoid security checks by taking advantage of her relationship with her DGP father. She was arrested after gold worth Rs 12.56 crore was recovered from her. After that, DRI officials also raided her house in Bengaluru. From there, they recovered gold and cash worth crores of rupees.

Ranya Rao was on DRI's radar due to her frequent international trips. According to officials, she had visited Dubai more than 30 times last year. She went to Dubai four times in the last 15 days. After this, she was suspected of smuggling. During a thorough search, cleverly hidden gold biscuits were recovered from her, after which she was taken into custody.

The actress is the daughter of Director General of Police (Police Housing Corporation) Ramachandra Rao. She has also worked with famous actor Sudeep in the film 'Manikya' (2014).
