Italia was briefly detained by the Delhi Police after an uproar in the commission's office on Wednesday. Italia alleged that she was threatened by the Chairperson of the Women's Commission, Rekha Sharma. He was kept in custody by Delhi Police for two and a half hours. The Women's Commission had summoned the Gujraj AAP chief for saying objectionable words towards PM Modi and Heera Ba. During his production, AAP workers raised slogans outside the commission's office.

Several party leaders have argued that Italia has participated in the Patidar movement and comes from the Patel community, hence the BJP is targeting him.

On the other hand, AAP chief and Delhi CM Kejriwal strongly criticized the detention of Italia and said that this has caused huge resentment among the Patel community of Gujarat.
