Amid the growing demand for the arrest of police officer Sachin Waze by the opposition party BJP in Maharashtra, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has said that he is being removed from the crime branch.
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has questioned the role of Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze in the explosive case found outside Mukesh Ambani's house.
Fadnavis has targeted the Uddhav Thackeray government and asked the question, "Does Sachin Vaje have anything to do with the Ambani case, is it a mere coincidence?"
Gelatin sticks were found in a Scorpio outside Antilia, Mukesh Ambani's house on Pedder Road in the posh area of Mumbai, after which the body of Scorpio owner Mansukh Hiren was recovered from Thane. Due to this, the whole matter has been in the limelight for the last few days.
Who is Sachin Vaje, suspended for 16 years?
After the allegations of Fadnavis, Mumbai Police officer Sachin Vazhe has put his side in front of the media. He said, "I had no idea of Mansukh Hirane's death. He had given a complaint to the Mumbai Police Commissioner and Thane Police, according to which the police and some journalists were harassing him. I went there to investigate the matter." "
Earlier, Sachin Vaje came into the discussion when TV journalist Arnab Goswami was also seen in the team that had taken him into custody. In such a situation, the question is who is this police officer who is being discussed so much.
Sachin Vajhe, who is famous as an encounter specialist in the Mumbai Police, is posted as the Assistant Inspector. These days he is the head of the Intelligence Unit of the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police. The responsibility of this unit is to stop crime by collecting intelligence about the crimes in Mumbai.
But it is also interesting to know that Sachin Waze was kept suspended by the Mumbai Police for 16 years. In June 2020, the committee headed by Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh withdrew the suspension of Sachin Waje, after which he returned. Parambir Singh posted him at the prestigious Mumbai Crime Branch.
Sachin Vajhe's full name is Sachin Hindrao Vaje. Originally Vajhe hails from Kolhapur district in Maharashtra. In 1990, he was selected as the Sub Inspector in the Maharashtra Police. A senior crime reporter tracking Vazhe's police career said, "Vajhe's first appointment was in the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district. He was then transferred to Thane in 1992."
The dominance of the underworld in Mumbai began in the 1990s. Due to gangsters like Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan, and Arun Gawli, the streets of Mumbai started to color with blood. Then the Mumbai Police started a campaign against the underworld. The Mumbai Police started encountering one of the Sharpshooters of the underworld one after the other. At the same time, Sachin Vaje was transferred to Mumbai.
Sub Inspector to Encounter Specialist
Vache was posted at the Crime Branch in Mumbai. A senior crime reporter tracking his career said on condition of confidentiality, "Vajhe used to work under Pradeep Sharma in those days. Pradeep Sharma was identified as an encounter specialist. Sharma was heading the Andheri Crime Intelligence Unit at the time. . "
While working with Pradeep Sharma, Sub Inspector Sachin Vaje gradually became an encounter specialist. The senior crime reporter claims, "Sachin Vaje has so far had more than 60 shooters in the underworld."
For the first time, Sachin Vaje came into the discussion when he had an encounter with Munna Nepali. Till his suspension in 2004, Sachin Vazhe was posted in the Crime Branch in Mumbai.
Suspension in Khwaja Yunus case
The Mumbai Police resorted to an encounter to break the back of the Mumbai underworld. On the one hand, Mumbai Police was destroying the underworld but on the other hand, in the early 2000s, there was a threat of extremism in Mumbai.
Sachin Vaje was then in the Crime Branch Mumbai and was investigating the Ghatkopar blast in December 2002. In this case, the police caught Khwaja Younis for questioning. Police later claimed that Khwaja escaped from police custody in 2003. But he died during police custody and Mumbai Crime Branch officials were accused of killing Khwaja during police custody.
A case was registered against some officials in this regard. Sachin Vaje was one of them. Sachin Vazhe was suspended in May 2004 along with 14 other officers for the murder of Khwaja during police custody. The charge sheet of 1000 pages of Khwaja's death in 2008 included the name of Sachin Waze and other officials.
Resigned from the job and joined Shiv Sena
However, earlier in 2007, after facing a three-year suspension, Sachin Waze resigned from the Maharashtra Police. However, the government did not accept his resignation. Sachin Vazhe joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of Bala Saheb Thackeray in 2008, a year after resigning.
Even after joining the Shiv Sena, Sachin Vaje was not very active in politics. However, he appeared on some news channels as a spokesperson of Shiv Sena.
