After the painful terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia. The Prime Minister has returned to Delhi on Wednesday morning and will chair the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security shortly from now. He took this decision given the seriousness of the attack.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other officials given the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Kashmir as soon as he returned from Saudi Arabia.
The biggest attack in the valley so far after the Pulwama attack
On Tuesday, terrorists carried out a deadly attack in Pahalgam, a tourist destination in Kashmir, killing 26 people. Most of the dead are said to be tourists. This attack is considered to be the biggest and deadliest terrorist attack in the valley after the 2019 Pulwama attack. There is an atmosphere of grief and anger against this attack across the country.
The Kashmir issue was also raised in Saudi Arabia.
This issue was specially raised between Prime Minister Modi and Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman. Both the leaders condemned terrorism and stressed strengthening bilateral cooperation while co-chairing the Strategic Partnership Council. Mohammad Bin Salman called the attack 'inhuman and condemnable' and expressed solidarity with India.
The meeting was delayed, but the situation was reviewed
Prime Minister Modi, who reached Jeddah, delayed his scheduled meeting with the Crown Prince by about two hours so that he could review the latest situation in Kashmir. Reports were sought from security agencies and information was taken every moment by staying in touch with the National Security Advisor (NSA).
Did not attend the dinner
According to sources, PM Modi completed the bilateral talks but did not attend the scheduled dinner with the Saudi Prince. He decided to return home on Tuesday night itself, cutting short his two-day visit. This decision shows that the government is taking this issue very seriously.
A high-level meeting in Srinagar too
On the other hand, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in Srinagar in which the security situation in the Kashmir Valley was reviewed. This meeting was held with the heads of security agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
Prime Minister Modi's strong message
Prime Minister Modi said on the social media platform X that he strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He wrote, "Those who are responsible for this heinous incident will not be spared. Our fight against terrorism is firm and we will respond to this nefarious act."
Trump expressed grief
US President Donald Trump also condemned the attack and said, "We stand firmly with India in difficult times. America supports India in the war against terrorism." This statement of Trump further deepens the India-US strategic relations.
