The first match of the three-match T0 series between India and Ireland will be played in Dublin on Friday (August 18). Team India will be captained by Jasprit Bumrah in this match. He will be the 11th captain of the country in T20. Bumrah played his last international match on September 25, 2022. Bumrah got injured after this T20 match played against Australia in Hyderabad. He also later had to undergo lower back surgery. Bumrah is going to land a three-match T20 series against Ireland on Friday after almost 11 months.
Bumrah is not only the captain of the team in this series but this series will also be a test of his fitness for the Asia Cup and the World Cup. He will get to bowl only 12 overs in this series, but during this time chief selector Ajit Agarkar, captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid will get to know whether he is ready to play for the Asia Cup and the World Cup. The preparations for the Hangzhou Asian Games, to be held on September 23, will also be targeted through this series.
Bumrah is a big weapon for the team
This entire team management knows how big a weapon a fit Bumrah is for the team. He was dropped in a hurry in the T20 series against Australia before the T20 World Cup last year. This decision was so heavy that Bumrah was away from international cricket for 11 months for the first time in his seven-year career. He was also included in the team for the home series in between, but he was dropped at the last minute. He had to undergo surgery during that time. Although the video released by the BCCI of Bumrah's practice session in Ireland shows him bowling short pitches and yorkers, the real test of his fitness will be during the match itself. There is a difference between T20 and ODI bowling. He has to bowl 10 overs in ODIs.
Asia Cup will be the basis of the selection
The series against Ireland will not only give Bumrah immense confidence but also prepare him physically and mentally for the Asia Cup. Here he will have a match against Pakistan on September 2, where Babar Azam will be in front of him. Coach Rahul Dravid has already hinted at the return of Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer after the West Indies tour ends. It was clear from Dravid's words that he wanted Bumrah back in the team at any cost.
Rinku-Jitesh eyes on debut
This series which is going to be against Ireland is full of future hopes of Team India. It also has Rinku Singh of Aligarh, who came into the eyes of the world through IPL, Jitesh Sharma of Vidarbha, and Ritraj Gaikwad, the captain of the Indian team in Asiad. Rinku and Jitesh are considered as strong contenders for the Indian team in T20. Both of them may also get a chance to make their international debut against Ireland.
12 players also on the Asiad team
12 players in the team landed against Ireland, who are also included in the Asiad team. Bumrah, Sanju Samson, and the legendary Krishna are the cricketers who are on the team on this tour but are not in the Asiad squad. In such a situation, this series will be a big opportunity for preparations for the Asiad. The T20 series in West Indies was not good for Samson. There will be eyes on them here. He has a good opportunity to stake his claim in the Asia Cup as well as the World Cup squad.
Coming back famous will also be eyed
In this series, not only Bumrah but the famous fast bowler Krishna is also making a comeback after recovering from injury. The selectors will also be eyeing Famous for the Asia Cup. These fast bowlers of Bengaluru will also have to prove their fitness through this series. The squad for the Asia Cup could be announced by the end of this week.
Little Gujarat of Ireland plays the Titans
The Ireland team, led by Paul Stirling, has good cricketers like Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, and left-arm spinner George Dockrell. Ireland has a good presence in this format of cricket, but they are still waiting for the first match win from India. Ireland's team also includes left-arm fast bowler Josh Little, who plays for Gujarat Titans.
All tickets for the first two matches sold out
The popularity of the Indian team is no less in Ireland as well. According to Cricket Ireland, all tickets for the first two T20 matches have been sold out and tickets for the third T20 are about to be sold out. All three matches will be played at Malahide Cricket Club, which has a capacity of 11,500 spectators. India has won all five T20 matches played so far from Ireland. For the first time, India defeated Ireland by 8 wickets in the 2009 T20 World Cup under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Ireland has previously hosted India twice in T20Is on the same ground in 2018 and 2022.
