The case of alleged black marketing of tickets for the Coldplay concert to be held in Mumbai is growing. The Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) once again on Sunday summoned Ashish Hemrajani, CEO of BookMyShow's parent company Big Tree Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
Summons have been issued earlier as well.
Mumbai Police said that the Economic Offenses Wing has once again sent a summons asking him to appear before the investigating officer today and record his statement. Earlier also, the EOW had sent a summons to Hemrajani to appear before the investigating officer on September 27. Let us tell you, that Advocate Amit Vyas has complained to the EOW about the alleged black marketing of Coldplay concert tickets.
What are the allegations in the complaint?
In the complaint, Vyas alleged that BookMyShow used unethical practices. Genuine fans were prevented from buying tickets during the official sale that began on September 22. In his complaint, he also accused the platform of allegedly manipulating access by logging out legitimate users or blocking them completely.
Britain's famous rock band 'Coldplay' is in the news in India these days. Coldplay's concert is to be held in Mumbai in January next year. Booking for this event was started recently.
The dispute may reach the filing of PIL in the Bombay High Court.
The Bar and Bench report said that Vyas is seeking registration of an FIR under various sections of the Indian Justice Code, 2023, including organized crime, fraud, criminal conspiracy, and criminal breach of trust. Apart from this, he also intends to file a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court, which aims to create regulatory guidelines for major events to help prevent such fraudulent activities in the future, the report said. At the same time, BookMyShow has also filed a police complaint against the sale of fake tickets for this concert on some platforms of the online ticket aggregator.
BookMyShow's clarification on the allegation of black marketing
BookMyShow had clarified continuous allegations. The company spokesperson had said that 1.3 crore fans wanted to get tickets for the ceremony. Therefore, BookMyShow had set a limit of four tickets per user across all shows. For this, phase-wise booking guides were created. After this, the line system was implemented given the high demand for tickets.
The spokesperson had said that an unauthorized booking platform fixed the tickets before and after the official booking of tickets started. BookMyShow has no connection with any third party or unauthorized ticket seller regarding concert tickets. We have complained to the police about this. We are helping the police in every possible way in this matter. We have asked people not to buy tickets from any unauthorized platform.
