India defeated South Africa by eight wickets in the first match of the three-match ODI series. With this victory, he took a 1-0 lead in the series. In this match, Arshdeep Singh took five wickets and Avesh Khan took four wickets for Team India. Arshdeep was chosen player of the match. After the win, he praised captain KL Rahul profusely and gave him credit for taking five wickets.

 

This was Arshdeep's fourth ODI match. He had not taken even a wicket in the three matches before this. Arshdeep said, "I was feeling pressure because I had never taken wickets in ODIs before. Now I am very happy with taking five wickets. The pitch was helping the fast bowlers in the beginning. We planned to get him bowled or LBW. It was successful.'' Arshdeep took five wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs.

Praising Rahul, Arshdeep said, "My confidence was shaken. Want to thank God and team management. It is a little different from the normal plains. I was breathing heavily. I would like to thank KL Rahul Bhai. He told me that when you come back you have to take five wickets.

 

Rahul's first win as captain in South Africa

Under the captaincy of KL Rahul, the Indian team last lost four matches in South Africa. There were defeats in three ODIs and one test match. As captain, Rahul got his first win in South Africa. He said, “I am happy after the victory. It was completely different from what we expected. We planned to bring spinners into the game. Everyone performed well.”

 

What happened in the match?

South African captain Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bat at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. His team was reduced to 116 runs. In reply, Team India won the match by scoring 117 runs in 16.4 overs. Sai Sudarshan, who made his debut for India, scored an unbeaten 55 runs. He hit nine fours in his 43-ball innings. Shreyas Iyer scored 52 runs on 45 balls. He hit six fours and one six. Ruturaj Gaikwad was out after scoring five runs. Tilak Verma remained unbeaten after scoring one run. Vian Mulder and Andile Phehlukwayo took one wicket each for South Africa.
