Following the violence in Nagpur, the Maharashtra Cyber Department has identified more than 140 posts and videos on social media platforms through which objectionable content was shared. The aim of which was to incite communal unrest. According to an official, these videos and posts were uploaded on Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter) and YouTube.

Notices have been issued to these social media accounts involved in inciting violence under Section 79 (3) (b) of the Information Technology Act 2000 so that such content can be removed immediately. Apart from this, notices have also been issued under Section 94 of the Indian Civil Security Code to identify the real operators of these social media accounts. The Maharashtra Cyber Department in collaboration with the Nagpur City Cyber Police Station is identifying accounts that were involved in spreading inflammatory content related to the Nagpur riots.

Attempt to disturb communal harmony.

The statement issued by the Maharashtra Cyber Department said that the purpose of these posts and videos was to hurt the sentiments of a particular religious community, increase communal tension and further deteriorate the law and order situation in the state. Such content was created to provoke public outrage, divide communities and increase animosity in the society by misusing the faith of the people.

Huge damage to public property due to riots

The cyber department said that public property has been damaged heavily during the riots in Nagpur and strict legal action will be taken against those who spread inflammatory content.

The Maharashtra Cyber Department will identify and prosecute all those individuals who are trying to disturb communal harmony by misusing digital platforms.

The cyber department has appealed to people to be cautious before sharing any information on social media and avoid sharing any objectionable or unverified content without checking.

69 arrests so far

So far 69 people have been arrested, including Minority Democratic Party leader Fahim Khan and eight Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) workers. Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam said on Wednesday that the attacks on policemen will be taken seriously and strict action will be taken against the culprits. He said that those who spread violence will get the harshest punishment.

33 policemen were injured, a woman policeman abused

33 policemen were injured in the violence on Monday night, including three DCP-level officers. During the violence, rioters damaged vehicles, threw petrol bombs and stones, attacked policemen, and vandalized houses.

The primary reason for this violence is being told that Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) workers had demonstrated demanding the removal of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, during which rumors of the burning of 'chadar' allegedly spread, which sparked violence. According to an FIR, during the violence, some rioters misbehaved with a woman police officer and tried to tear her clothes.
