The central government has banned Pakistan's OTT platform Vidli TV after streaming of anti-India web series Sevak. Kanchan Gupta, the senior advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said in a Twitter post that the ministry on Monday issued instructions to immediately block Pakistani OTT platform Vidli TV's website, two mobile apps, four internet media accounts, and one smart TV app. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken this action under the IT Rules 2021.
Threat to India's sovereignty
Completely fake and inflammatory, this web series was sponsored by Pakistan's Information Operation System. Through this, a threat was created to India's sovereignty and integrity, national security, and public order. The first episode of this web series was released on November 26, 2022, the anniversary of the Mumbai attacks. Three episodes of the web series have been released so far. This web series poses a threat to India's sovereignty and integrity, national security by misrepresenting sensitive incidents like Operation Blue Star and its aftermath, the demolition of disputed structures in Ayodhya, the killing of a Christian missionary, the Malegaon blast, the Samjhauta Express blast to be done. Last year too, India banned 59 Chinese mobile apps, including Internet media platforms such as Tiktok, WeChat, and Helo, keeping in mind the threat to the sovereignty and security of the nation.
