PM Modi: PM Modi gave a special interview to UAE newspaper, and spoke in detail on these issues before COP28

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an interview to a UAE newspaper on Friday. In this, he talked about many issues. He said, 'India hopes that COP28 hosted by the UAE will bring new momentum to effective climate action. India and the UAE stand together to shape a greener and more prosperous future. We remain steadfast in our joint efforts to advance and drive global discussion on climate action.

The problem did not arise because of developing countries: PM

On climate finance, Prime Minister Modi said that it is very important to know that the problem has not arisen because of the developing countries, nor has it become so big because of them. Yet developing countries want to be part of the solution. However, they cannot contribute to this without access to the necessary financing and technology. That's why I strongly advocate global cooperation to ensure needed climate financing and technology transfer.

Also spoke on Global South

He said that India and the UAE stand as partners in shaping a greener and more prosperous future. I believe climate action must be based on equity, climate justice, shared responsibility, and shared capabilities. By following these principles we can create a path towards a sustainable future that leaves no one behind. We must ensure that the development priorities of the Global South are not compromised. I am glad that this has been appropriately addressed at the recent G20 Summit in New Delhi. It also stressed the need to rapidly and massively scale up investment and climate finance from billions to trillions of dollars from all sources globally.

Said this on hosting COP28

He said that at COP28 we hope to make credible progress on the new Collective Quantitative Target (NCQG) on climate finance. We are delighted that the UAE is hosting COP28. I congratulate the Government and people of the UAE on this special occasion. Both countries are actively cooperating to tackle the serious global challenge of climate change.
