India-France: Macron on a two-day visit to India from today; The Focus will be on defense-trade-related agreements

Republic Day chief guest French President Emmanuel Macron will begin his two-day visit to India from Jaipur today. PM Narendra Modi will also reach Jaipur to welcome Macron. A bilateral meeting is to be held between the two leaders at Hotel Taj Rambagh Palace. The two leaders will discuss enhancing cooperation in areas related to defense, security, trade, climate change, clean energy, and visas for students and professionals. Apart from this, Modi and Macron are also expected to discuss increasing maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, the situation in the Red Sea, the Hamas-Israel conflict, and the war in Ukraine.

 

Both the leaders will spend about six hours in Jaipur. They will visit Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, and Amer Fort in Jaipur. A roadshow and dinner will also be held. After this both the leaders will reach Delhi to participate in the Republic Day programme. In a statement issued by France, it was said that the invitation to India's National Day celebration is unprecedented. This reflects the mutual trust and unbreakable friendship between India and France.

 

 

Amer Fort will remain closed for people today

The Rajasthan government has closed Amer Fort for general tourists on January 25 for this high-profile tour. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the French President's plane will land at Jaipur airport at 2:30 pm on Thursday. PM Modi will welcome Macron at around 5:30 pm on Thursday. Both will leave for Delhi at around 8:50 pm.

 

Talk on the purchase of 26 Rafale and three submarines

The French President's visit comes at a time when top negotiators from both sides are looking to finalize two mega defense deals to procure 26 Rafale-M fighter jets and three French-designed Scorpene submarines.

President Macron's visit will strengthen the France-India strategic partnership, which the two leaders signed in Paris on July 14 through the Horizon 2047 roadmap. Macron will be accompanied by a ministerial delegation, which will include a trade delegation as well as ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet, along with Stéphane Séjourn (Europe and Foreign Affairs), Sébastien Lecornu (Armed Forces) and Rachida Dati (Culture), among other dignitaries.

 

France's 95-member marching squad will participate

Macron will witness the Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest on Friday. During this time, a 95-member marching squad and a 33-member band squad from France will participate in the parade. Six Indians are also included in the French marching contingent of the French Foreign Legion. The ceremony will also include two Rafale fighter aircraft of the French Air Force and an Airbus A330 multi-role tanker transport aircraft.
