There was a time when India and Pakistan played each other frequently in ICC events, tournaments in Sharjah, and some bilateral series. However, due to rising political tensions on both sides of the border, cricket relations between the two countries came to a standstill. Today, India and Pakistan face each other only during ICC events. The last match between India and Pakistan was in the 2019 World Cup, in which Team India led by Virat Kohli won. Former Pakistani captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has advocated starting cricket between the two countries. He says that the series between India and Pakistan will be bigger than the Ashes series.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, former captain of the Pakistan team, said in an interview to Sportstar, “The India-Pakistan series is much more loved than the Ashes and people have enjoyed every moment very much. Asia for the betterment of the game and the players. It is also important to have a cup and a bilateral series between India and Pakistan." Bilateral series between the two countries has not been seen for almost a decade. This is the reason why everyone wants to see both the countries play, as both the teams are arch rivals of each other.

Inzamam has said, "Every competition is important. In our time, the Asia Cup was a tournament where top teams competed. The more you play high-quality cricket, you develop your skills. For example, If India were playing Pakistan, players would be excited to try their best, as they know the importance and intensity of these matches. It not only helps a player to grow but also earns him praise from fans. I think it's important to have these tournaments."
