Three years after this event, the International Socialist Conference met in 1889. It was decided in this meeting that every labour would be required to work only for 8 hours a day. At the same time, after the conference, it was decided to celebrate labour Day on 1st May. It was also decided to give holidays to labourers every year on this day. In India too, the workers were raising their voices against atrocities and exploitation. The Leftists were leading the workers. Because of his movement, labour Day was celebrated for the first time in Chennai on 1 May 1923. It was announced to celebrate labour Day under the chairmanship of the labour Kisan Party of Hindustan. Many organizations and social parties supported this decision.
