Islamabad Aurat March: On the occasion of Women's Day, women took out Aurat March, police lathi charged; got suspended

Women took out 'Aurat March' on the occasion of Women's Day in Islamabad, Pakistan. During this, the police lathi-charged the women who participated in the march. During this, the women's march looked quite violent.

 

Policemen who lathi-charged women were suspended

At the same time, Pakistan's Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Wednesday that the accused policemen have been suspended. In a tweet, he said that other persons responsible for the misbehavior are also being identified and appropriate action will be taken against them.

 

In one of his tweets, Sanaullah said that citizens participating in the march were misbehaving and strict action would be taken against those responsible for it.

 

Discussion with the police chief regarding the matter

Sanaullah said that he has taken a tough stand on the treatment meted out to the marchers and the police chief of Islamabad has also been called to discuss the matter.

 

One of the organizers of the march explained what happened during the rally, reports DAWN. He said that the transgenders were protesting at the time when the police took action against the protestors.

 

Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman also condemned the Islamabad police's action against citizens participating in the Aurat March and demanded an investigation into the incident.

 

There is no apology for this, he said. This is not what we fought for and will not be tolerated. The minister said the incident was brought to the notice of the interior minister.

 

The first woman march was taken out in 2018

Women in Pakistan organize Aurat March to celebrate International Women's Day. This march is taken out every year in other cities including Lahore, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Faisalabad, Multan, Quetta, Karachi, Islamabad, and Peshawar. The first woman was evicted in March 2018 in Karachi. Aurat March focuses on wages, safety, and peace for women.

 

At a press conference at the Karachi Press Club (KPC), social activist Seema Karmani said that the slogan of last year's Aurat March was Ujrat, Tahfuz, and Sukoon.
