Darrell Mitchell's (102) century and Matt Henry's 72 off 75 balls helped New Zealand take an 18-run lead in the first innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka had scored 355 runs in the first innings. New Zealand managed to score 373 runs in the first innings. In Sri Lanka's second innings, Blair Tickner took three wickets for 28 runs and sent Oshada Fernando (28), Dimuth Karunaratne (17), and Kusal Mendis (14) to the pavilion. Wenger left the field before the end of the game with an ankle injury.
