The lumpy virus has taken a frightening form in the country. The virus has spread to 251 districts of 15 states and has engulfed more than 20.56 lakh cows. About one lakh cows have died. In Rajasthan, more than 13.99 lakh cows are infected and more than 64 thousand have died. This has a direct impact on livestock farmers and farmers.
More than 3.60 crore cows have been identified in the vulnerable category in the country. According to official figures, 97,435 cows lost their lives till the evening of 23 September. However, unofficial figures are being told much higher. The central government has asked the states to intensify the vaccination campaign to protect cows from the disease. Advisory is also being issued continuously. Experts say that the initial cases of infection from lumpy were reported in the year 2019. Then it was not taken seriously at the administrative level, otherwise, the situation could have been saved from deteriorating. At the same time, the Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Dr. Sanjeev Balyan said, the Center will consider including the vaccination campaign to prevent the lumpy virus in the routine. He said that the vaccine is being administered completely free of cost.
