Mahakumbh stampede case reaches Supreme Court, PIL filed; Read what was demanded from SC.

Ahead of the second Amrit Snan festival of Mahakumbh, Mauni Amavasya, there was a stampede in the Sangam area of ​​​​Prayagraj on Tuesday night. 30 people died in this incident which happened on Wednesday night. At the same time, many people were injured. A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding this incident.

 

A PIL was filed in the Supreme Court demanding the state governments to make instructions, policies, and rules to prevent stampede at crowded places like Mahakumbh.

 

What was demanded in the PIL?

 

In the PIL filed by a lawyer, it has been sought to give instructions that it should be ensured that the common devotees are not troubled by the VIP movement. At the same time, maximum space should be provided for the entry and exit of devotees in the Mahakumbh.

 

The PIL also sought directions from the Uttar Pradesh government to submit a status report on the Mahakumbh 2025 stampede incident that took place on January 29. At the same time, action has been demanded against the officers who are responsible for this stampede.

 

How did the stampede happen?

 

On the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, a huge crowd of devotees gathered in the Sangam area. The crowd grew so much that people broke the barricades and climbed over the sleeping devotees. After the incident and the continuous increase in the crowd, the administration requested the Akharas to temporarily postpone their ritual bathing.
