India's largest airline, IndiGo, has announced additional compensation for passengers affected by the recent disruptions, in addition to refunds. However, this relief will only be available to a select group of passengers.
Let's find out what IndiGo's announcement was, which passengers will receive relief, and how much pressure this will put on IndiGo.
What was IndiGo's announcement?
IndiGo stated that if passengers booked their tickets through a travel partner platform, all necessary steps for their refunds have been initiated. However, the airline does not have complete information about such passengers in its system. Therefore, these passengers can provide their details to IndiGo via email at customer.experience@goindigo.in. We will continue to assist them.
IndiGo further stated that passengers who traveled with them on December 3rd, 4th, and 5th had a negative experience and were stranded at the airport for several hours. Many of them were severely affected due to the massive crowds. We will provide these affected passengers with travel vouchers worth ₹10,000. These travel vouchers can be used for any travel with IndiGo within the next 12 months.
IndiGo clarified that this is additional compensation. According to the airline, it is also committed to providing compensation ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 to consumers whose flights were canceled within 24 hours of the departure time without prior notice, as per government guidelines.
