Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan's much-awaited film 'Son of Sardar 2' is going to hit the theatres on August 1, but even before its release, it is facing huge difficulties in getting screens. On one hand, there were plans to release the film on a large scale, on the other hand, the presence of hit films already running in theatres and another big release has given it a big setback.
Big setback even before release
Actually, according to Pinkvilla's report, the makers of Ajay's film had planned to release it on 3500 screens across the country, but now it may be seen to be reduced to about 2500 screens. The biggest reason for this decline is films like 'Saiyaara' and 'Mahavatar Narasimha', which are currently performing well at the box office. Both films are currently benefiting the theatre owners, so they are not ready to remove them yet.
Distributors vs Exhibitors
According to sources, the distributors of 'Son of Sardaar 2' want the film to be given 60 percent of the total show timings. But the consent of the theater operators is limited to only 35 percent. Many single-screen theaters have said that they will give only two shows a day, while the same attitude is being seen in non-national chain cinemas. Big multiplex owners like PVR Inox have also expressed their displeasure over this situation.
'Dhadak 2's smart game plan
Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri's film 'Dhadak 2', which is releasing this week, has adopted a different strategy to keep itself away from this uproar. The film will be released on only 1000 screens and it will focus on urban markets. Due to this, 'Dhadak 2' does not have to struggle for screens, while 'Son of Sardaar 2' has the challenge of attracting the audience in limited shows.
The situation will be clear by July 31
Although the situation is difficult, sources associated with the film say that the final show allotment decision can be taken by the morning of July 31. Talks are going on between the producers and theater owners, and a decision can be made at the last moment.
