Only a few days remain for the Maharashtra Assembly elections. While campaigning for the BJP, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari fiercely targeted the Congress. He alleged that Congress tampered with the Constitution for its selfish interests. On Monday, while campaigning for BJP candidate Charan Singh Thakur, Gadkari addressed a rally. He said in this rally that the BJP never tried to change BR Ambedkar's Constitution nor allowed anyone to do so.
Counterattacked Congress's claims
The Congress repeatedly claims that the BJP will change the Constitution. Counterattacking this, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said, "We neither tried to change Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution nor allowed anyone to do so." He also cited the Supreme Court's decision in the historic Kesavananda Bharati case to support his point.
Gadkari said, "Nobody can change the main features of the Constitution like freedom of expression, democracy, socialism, secularism, and fundamental rights. During the Emergency, Indira Gandhi tried to spoil the Constitution. In the country's history, it was the Congress that committed the sin of destroying the Constitution, and now they are blaming us."
Talked about eliminating untouchability and casteism
Praising Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the BJP leader said that the emperor gave people Shiv Shahi similar to Lord Rama's Ram Rajya, about which Mahatma Gandhi always said that it should be established in the country. He said, "If you want to establish Ram Rajya, then it is not in the hands of leaders but in the hands of the people. Do not vote based on caste, religion, or language. People do not become great based on caste, they become great by their qualities. Untouchability and casteism should be destroyed."
Nitin Gadkari further said, "Leaders who cannot win on the basis of merit, use caste for electoral gain. You go to the best person for food and health, not their caste. Unless you select an honest, corruption-free leader and party, your future will not change." He said the Mahayuti government has come up with several welfare schemes for the people. He asked if any of these had a condition that Muslims and Dalits could not apply.
