After facing harassment from his wife and her family 120 court dates in two years, and still not getting justice, 34-year-old IT professional Atul Subhash chose death. Considering suicide as the last option, Atul left behind a 1.5-hour video and a 24-page suicide note, which exposed the flaws in the social fabric of married life, the tale of his partner's greed and conspiracy, and corruption in the legal department. He also prayed for the well-being of his parents and four-year-old son. Atul committed suicide after sharing the suicide note and video message with some friends and an NGO that helps men suffering from marital problems.

In the case, Marathahalli police have registered an FIR under Section 108 and 3(5) of the BNS against four people, including Atul's wife Nikita Singhania, on the complaint of Atul's brother Vikas Kumar. An FIR has been registered against Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha Singhania, brother Anurag Singhania, and uncle Sushil Singhania.

The Bangalore police received the news of Atul's suicide from an NGO. On receiving the information, the police reached the flat in Manjunath Layout and found his body hanging from the fan, on whose chest were written pages pasted with glue - Justice is yet to come. The police found a 24-page suicide note from the house, out of which four pages were handwritten and 20 were printed from the computer. In these 24 pages, Atul described his emotional distress, harassment by his wife, and disappointment from the judiciary. According to the suicide note, Atul Subhash, a native of Samastipur, Bihar, was working at a top position in a private company in Bangalore. He married Nikita Singhania of Jaunpur in 2019 and had a son a year later.

9 cases were registered by making several allegations

According to the suicide note, wife Nikita works in an IT company. In 2021, the wife came to her maternal home in Jaunpur with her son. She filed 9 separate cases against Atul and his family, including dowry harassment, attempted murder, and forcing to have unnatural intimate. Apart from the alimony of Rs 40,000 per month, they demanded another two to four lakh rupees. On the complaint of Atul's brother, Karnataka Police has registered a case against his wife Nikita Singhania, mother-in-law Nisha Singhania and brother-in-law Anurag alias Piyush Singhania, cousin father-in-law Sushil Singhania under various sections of BNS.

I demanded Rs 5 lakh to settle the matter... my decision is pending.

Atul wrote in the suicide note that out of the nine cases against him, six cases were in the trial court and three in the High Court. In two years, 120 court dates were fixed, which completely broke me. The judge of Jaunpur court and his staff also demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to settle the matter. Atul wrote, this system did not give me justice, my decision is pending.

Wife had said- if everyone dies then why don't you die? So take that as yours.

Referring to a hearing in the family court of Jaunpur in the suicide note, Atul said that when he told the judge that his wife had filed false cases, the judge said, so what? She is your wife and this is a common thing. Atul noted that many people die due to false cases, then Nikita said why don't you do the same? On this, the judge laughed loudly. Atul wrote wife showed me the right path. Death is the end of all this. Atul said that his wife initially demanded Rs 1 crore, but later increased the demand to Rs 3 crore.

My hard-earned money is strengthening my enemies.

Atul wrote, that my wife and her family members do not let me meet my son. These people are only asking for money from me. I have given lakhs so far. The more I work hard and get better at my work, the more I and my family will be harassed. There will be extortion and the entire legal system is with those who harass me. My enemies are getting stronger with my money. The tax I pay on my salary is helping the police, and the legal system to harass me and my family. Now after I am gone, there will be no money and there will be no reason to harass my old parents and my brother. I may have destroyed my body, but it has saved everything I believe in.

Last wish: Wife should not be able to come near the dead body after death

Atul also wrote some last wishes in the suicide note. He made it clear that after his death, his wife and her family members should not be allowed to come near the dead body. The custody of the son should be given to his parents because his wife cannot raise him by giving him good values. Atul wrote that his ashes should not be immersed until his wife and her family members are punished. If they are not punished, then his ashes should be thrown in the gutter outside the court. Atul expressed more confidence in the courts of Karnataka than in UP and further sought to prosecute his wife in the court of Bengaluru.
