According to the scriptures, Uttarayan is considered the day of the gods and Dakshinayan is considered the night of the gods. When the Sun remains in Dakshinayan, during this time it is called the night of the gods and goddesses, and the 6 months of Uttarayan are called days. Dakshinayan is considered a symbol of negativity and darkness while Uttarayan is considered a symbol of positivity and light.
