There is a huge water crisis in Delhi. There is a shortage of water in every area of Delhi, be it common or special. Regarding this, Delhi's Water Minister Atishi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She said that if Delhi does not get its rightful share of water, I will sit on an indefinite fast from June 21.
Atishi said that I had written a letter to Prime Minister Modi and humbly requested him to provide water to the people of Delhi, whether from Haryana or from somewhere else, but provide water by any means. If Delhi does not get its rightful share of 100 MGD water by June 21, then I will have to start a Satyagraha for water. I will sit on an indefinite fast from June 21 until the people of Delhi get their rightful share of water.
Water shortage in many areas and, crisis in hospitals too
Water is not coming in many colonies of East Delhi for three days. There is an outcry for water in many areas including Vinod Nagar, Mandavali, and Ganesh Nagar. Here, in New Delhi, water supply has been reduced in Gole Market, Bengali Market, Tilak Marg, Parliament House, Supreme Court, High Court and judges' bungalows. Hospitals like RML, Kalawati, and Lady Harding are also facing water shortages.
NDMC member Kuljit Singh Chahal said that the Delhi Jal Board has been giving less water in the NDMC area for the last several days. Water supply from Wazirabad plant has been stopped, due to which many big hospitals like RML, and Lady Harding are facing problems in water supply. The minimum amount of water provided to NDMC by the Jal Board is 125 MLD. Mainly water is supplied to New Delhi from three water treatment plants Wazirabad, Chandrawal, and Sonia Vihar, but the Wazirabad water treatment plant is running at less than 50 percent capacity. Delhi Jal Board had to provide 60 MLD water from here, but the water supply was stopped.
Chahal said that the Chandrawal water treatment plant is running at 30 percent less capacity. 35 MLD water was available from here, but only 20 to 25 MLD water is being provided. This water reaches President Estate, Chanakyapuri, the Embassy, PM House, and MP Flat. Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant is running at 10 percent less capacity. New Delhi should get 30 MLD water from this, but only 20 MLD is being provided.
