Modi-Jinping-Shahbaz: For the first time since the Russia-Ukraine war, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share a platform. The special thing is that PM Modi, Jinping, and Shahbaz are sharing a platform at a time when India does not have good relations with both countries. Relations with China are at the height of tension over the border dispute, while relations with Pakistan remain bitter over terrorism. So what are the implications of the three leaders sharing the stage? How are political experts taking this diplomatic meeting? Will the relations between China and Pakistan soften? The two leaders are meeting at a time when all diplomatic initiatives to end the Ukraine war have been disappointing.

 

1- How useful is it for the three leaders to come on one platform from a diplomatic point of view? Foreign affairs expert Prof Harsh V Pant says that it is very important to share the stage of Indian PM Modi with Chinese President Jinping and Shahbaz. It has great significance from a diplomatic point of view. This is especially useful from the point of view of Indian foreign policy. India has once again shown that there is no difference between the words and deeds of its foreign policy. He said that this is the strength of India's neutral foreign policy. He said that there have been many such occasions when India has served its interests on the strength of its neutral foreign policy and has proved its iron to the whole world. Prof Pant said that India has demonstrated that with its strategic partnership with the US, it conducts neutral relations with its adversaries.

 

2- Will the standoff of the border dispute with China reduces? In response to this question, he said that the possibility of this is very less. He said that this forum is important in the way that despite the strained relations between the two countries, we are coming forward for bilateral relations. India's policy shows that it wants to resolve its disputed issues only through mutual dialogue. It does not support any other country's intervention or war in the border dispute.

 

3- Are there any signs of reduction in Pakistan-sponsored terrorism? Look, terrorism is an issue in this meeting, but there is little chance that Pakistan will bring any change to India. However, if seen diplomatically, this meeting and meeting is to limit the war-like situation and tension between the two countries.

 

4- What will be the reaction of the US to sharing the stage with China, Russia, and Pakistan? Prof Pant said that after the Ukraine war and the Taiwan-China dispute, the US relations with Dragon and Russia are going through the worst phase. The world is almost divided into two parts regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. Western countries including America are against Russia. The US has imposed various sanctions on Russia. On the other hand, after the visit of Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, there is a war-like situation between China and America. So the situation in India is slightly different. It is also a strategic partner of the US and a member of the Quad. America is also a member of this quad. On the other hand, India has an old relationship with Russia. India never allowed anyone to come in the way of this friendship. The specialty of Indian foreign policy has been that it manages its relations with the US and Russia in different ways. Now America also understands India's neutrality policy. So much so that he has on many occasions kept his stand in favor of India's neutrality policy.

 

5- Will Modi take a diplomatic initiative to end the Ukraine war? Prof Pant said that at the point at which the Russia-Ukraine war has reached, there is little possibility of a diplomatic solution to it. Now Russia and Ukraine themselves will have to take the initiative to end this war through talks. Anyway, in the ongoing war between the two countries, India has so far adopted the policy of neutrality. He said that India will take any initiative in this direction, but it seems unlikely. However, the situation arising out of the war can be discussed. This has become a cause of concern for the whole world.

 

Putin visited India in 2021

 

In December 2021, President Putin visited New Delhi for a few hours and had an annual India-Russia summit with PM Modi. PM Modi has had several telephonic talks with Putin after Russia attacked Ukraine, but this will be the first bilateral meeting between them in recent times. Issues related to the current India-Russia relations, petroleum import-export, and energy relations will especially arise in the discussion between them. Russia is an important crude and gas supplier country to India after February 2022. India has increased the purchase of oil and gas from Russia, bypassing the pressure of America and Western countries in this regard.
