A mob set ablaze an open gym constructed at PT Sports Complex in New Lamka in Manipur's Churachandpur district on Thursday. This gym was to be inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.

 

The mob also ransacked the venue of the public meeting at Sadbhav Mandap. After this incident, internet has been temporarily banned in Churachandpur district of the state and section 144 has been imposed.

Police said an angry mob partially set ablaze the newly established open gym at PT Sports Complex in New Lamka, which is to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Biren Singh on Friday afternoon. Apart from the inauguration of the open gym, Biren is also scheduled to attend another function at the Sadbhavna Mandap.

 

The mob attack took place after a forum of indigenous tribal leaders called for a Churachandpur bandh from 8 am to 4 pm. The Forum claimed that despite repeated representations to the government protesting the ongoing eviction drive to clear reserved forest areas of farmers and other tribal residents, the government showed no sincerity or desire to alleviate the plight of the people. signal is not shown.
