Paris Olympics Day 7: Manu reached the final, Lakshya won the quarter-final, India won in hockey

The seventh day of the Paris Olympics was also special for India. Manu Bhaker entered the final of the 25m pistol and moved towards a hat-trick of medals. In badminton, Lakshya Sen entered the semi-finals with a spectacular victory. He became the first Indian to reach the men's singles of badminton. Apart from this, the hockey team won the hearts of the fans by defeating Australia 3-2 after 52 years in the Olympics.

 

Manu's dominance continues

 

India's star shooter Manu Bhaker has qualified for the final of the women's 25m pistol event. She finished second in the qualification round. She scored 294 in the precision round and 296 in the rapid round. Manu's total score was 590 and she scored 24 Xs. Hungary's Major Veronica was in first place. She scored 294 in the precision round and 298 in the rapid round. Veronica's total score was 592 and she scored 27 Xs i.e. perfect 10. Manu has qualified for the final of her third consecutive event. Earlier, she had reached the final of the women's 10m air pistol event and the 10m air pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh. She won bronze medals in both. Manu has a chance to make a hat-trick of medals. She is also the first Indian to win two medals in an Olympics. Manu will play the final of the 25m pistol event tomorrow i.e. on Saturday. Manu was in third place after the precision round. At the same time, another Indian shooter Isha Singh finished 18th with a score of 581 in the same event. She scored 291 in the precision round, while Isha scored 290 in the rapid round. Manu's final match will be played on Saturday from 1 pm.

 

India beat Australia in the Olympics after 52 years

The Indian hockey team faced Australia today. Before the quarter-finals, Harmanpreet Singh's team defeated Australia 3-2. With this, India has returned to the winning track before the quarter-finals. Interestingly, India has defeated Australia after 52 years in the history of the Olympics. Earlier in 1972, India had won against Australia. In the match played on Friday, Abhishek scored a goal in the 12th minute of the first quarter and India took a 1-0 lead. Harmanpreet Singh scored a goal in the 13th minute in a penalty corner. With this, India went ahead 2-0. Australia opened its account in the second quarter. Craig Thomas scored a goal in the 25th minute and the team's score became 2-1. In the 26th minute, India got a penalty corner which was saved by Harmanpreet Singh. India was ahead with a 2-1 lead till halftime. In the third quarter, Harmanpreet Singh scored a goal in a penalty stroke in the 32nd minute. With this, India went ahead 3-1. After three quarters, India maintained a 3-1 lead over Australia. In the fourth quarter, Blake Govers scored for Australia in the 55th minute and gave Australia a 3-2 lead. With this, India won and made it to the quarter-finals. The Indian team finished second after Belgium with three wins, one draw, and one loss in the pool stage and will face the third-ranked team of Pool A in the quarter-finals.

 

The Dheeraj-Ankita pair missed the bronze medal

 

The mixed doubles archery pair of Dheeraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat faced America in the bronze medal match, but the Indian pair had to face defeat by 2-6. In this way, Dheeraj and Ankita missed the historic bronze medal.

 

India's challenge in Judo ends

 

Indian Judo player Tulika Mann was eliminated in the first round of the women's over 78 kg event on Friday with a defeat against London Olympics champion Idelis Ortiz of Cuba. Commonwealth Games 2022 silver medalist Tulika, 22, from Delhi, lost 0-10 by ippon against a Cuban player. The Cuban player has four Olympic medals to her name, including one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal. Tulika could only last 28 seconds against Ortiz.

Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma shot two under 69 with two eagles in the second round of the Paris Olympics here on Friday, which puts him in tied for 25th place. Shubhankar, who shot 70 in the first round, has a total score of three under after two days. Another Indian Gaganjeet Bhullar carded two under 69 and showed a better performance than his first round card of 75, which puts him in tied 52nd place.

 

Ankita and Parul ranked 20th and 14th in the women's 5000m race

 

India's Ankita and Parul Chaudhary could not qualify for the finals by finishing 20th and 14th respectively in the women's 5000m race in the athletics event of the Paris Olympics. Ankita clocked 16:19.38 in heat one and finished last. Parul, on the other hand, performed her best of the season with a time of 15:10.68 but finished 14th out of 20 runners. The top eight from both heats qualified for the finals.

 

Lakshya created history by reaching the semi-finals

 

Lakshya Sen has reached the men's singles semi-finals in badminton, he is the first Indian to do so. Lakshya defeated Taiwan's Chu Tin Chen 19-21, 21-15, 21-12. Lakshya Sen has achieved a historic feat in Indian badminton. With a thrilling three-game win against Chinese Taipei's Chu Tin Chen in the quarterfinals, Sen has reached a milestone no Indian male shuttler has reached before. Lakshya now became the first Indian male shuttler to reach the semifinals of badminton men's singles at the Olympics. He is now just one win away from a medal. Before Lakshya, Kidambi Srikanth (2016) and Parupalli Kashyap (2012) had reached the quarterfinals. Sen is India's only hope for a badminton medal from Paris.

 

Tajinderpal Singh Toor misses out on qualifying

Tajinderpal Singh Toor missed out on qualifying for the men's shot put final with a throw of 18.05m. He finished 15th in Group A.
