Amid BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's controversial remarks on the Supreme Court, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has made a big statement. The Vice President has once again questioned the jurisdiction of the judiciary within the framework of the Indian government laid down in the Constitution.
MPs are the ultimate owners of the Constitution.
Jagdeep Dhankhar said that Parliament is supreme and MPs are the ultimate owners of the Constitution. There can be no authority above them.
Speaking at an event organized at Delhi University, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said that a Prime Minister who imposed an emergency was held accountable in 1977. Therefore, there should be no doubt that the Constitution is for the people and it is the repository of its protection.
Parliament is supreme
Dhankhar further said that elected MPs are the ultimate owners of the Constitution. The Constitution does not envision any authority above Parliament. Parliament is supreme and in such a situation it is as supreme as every person in the country.
