New Delhi, Feb 24 (IANS) Parliament Tuesday passed a bill amending the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1971 in a move towards expediting Delhi Metro's work.
The Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Amendment Bill, 2014 will amend the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1971 which provides for the speedy eviction of unauthorised occupants from public premises, including those of government companies and corporations.
"It pertains to Delhi Metro. Metro people want the work to be expedited and certain blocks are coming in their way," Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said Tuesday as the bill was taken up in the Rajya Sabha.
"There are some technical problems so these amendments are made," he added.
This Act has been amended three times earlier in 1980, 1984 and 1994. The present proposal seeks 4th amendment to the Act.
Major objective of the amendment bill is to bring the properties of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and other Metro Rails which may come up in future and also the properties of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) within the ambit of the Act.
The bill was passed by Lok Sabha last December.
