No new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Beijing since China ended its zero-COVID policy late last year. This has been revealed in a new study on Wednesday.

China has registered a steady rise in corona cases after ending the zero covid policy in early December.

More than a dozen countries immediately imposed new restrictions on travelers from China, but a new study by Chinese researchers analyzing 413 samples from Beijing between November 14 and December 20 said There is no evidence that new variants of Corona have emerged during that time.

At the same time, more than 90 percent of the cases were BF.7 and BA5.2, omicron subvariants already present in China and much higher than the more transmissible subvariants in Western countries.

According to the study published in The Lancet journal, BF.7 accounted for three-quarters of the samples taken, while Ba5.2 made up more than 15 percent.

Our analysis suggests that rather than any new variants, the two known Omicron sub-variants are mainly concentrated in Beijing and potentially China, said lead study author George Gao, a virologist at the Institute of Microbiology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in a statement. Responsible for the growing corona cases.

He said that China has cut down its testing, due to which the results of Corona have been affected. The test only covers Beijing, not the whole country.
