The capability of the Pinaka rocket, fully indigenous and developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), is being continuously enhanced. The enhanced capabilities of Pinaka were tested in Balasore and Pokhran over the past few weeks.

In the success of Make in India in the defense sector, other manufacturers including Munitions India Limited and Economic Explosives Limited contributed immensely to the completion of this test and enhanced the capabilities of Pinaka.

Let's know about the rocket system

Pinaka Mk-i is an upgraded rocket system, which has been successfully test-fired several times in the past. These rocket systems have been developed based on the technology of DRDO. The Pinaka Mk-I rocket system has a range of about 45 km. At the same time, the Pinaka-II rocket system has a range of 60 km. The rocket system has been jointly designed by two DRDO laboratories, the Ordnance High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) and the Research and Development Establishment (ARDE).

Developed in the 1980s

Enemy targets close to Pinaka can be destroyed. It targets short-range infantry, artillery, and weaponized vehicles. DRDO started developing the Pinaka rocket system in the 1980s. After this, the successful test of Pinaka Mark-One in the late 1990s gave great strength to the Indian Army. There are six launch vehicles in a single battery of the Pinaka system. Pinaka-II is designed as a guided missile.

Pinaka Mark-1 was accurate in the Kargil war

The Pinaka Mark-I variant was used by the Indian Army during the Kargil War of 1999, which accurately targeted Pakistani positions on mountain posts and forced the enemy to retreat in the war.
