Four mobile phone numbers threatening the 26/11 terror attacks, shared on the WhatsApp number of the Mumbai traffic police, have been blocked between February and August this year. These remain a matter of concern to the intelligence agencies and the Mumbai Crime Branch. The Mumbai traffic police received threats on his WhatsApp number last week. After this, a special team of the Mumbai Crime Branch was formed to investigate the matter. According to sources, in a threat message sent by an unidentified person who is suspected to be in Pakistan, he shared 10 numbers on the WhatsApp of the traffic police and claimed that these people are planning a 26/11 type of terrorist attack.
Mobile holders are being questioned in UP
Sources in the Mumbai Crime Branch have told us that the number nine is from Uttar Pradesh. Of these, eight are from Bijnor and one from Muzaffarnagar district while another number is from Haryana state. Crime Branch with the help of Uttar Pradesh ATS traced five numbers of Bijnor, out of which four are in UP and one in Vasai town of Palghar district of Maharashtra. The person who reached Vasai is a hairdresser by profession and had come to the city only this week. He is being questioned for four days. Other mobile holders are being questioned in UP. Another team of the Mumbai Crime Branch is in Haryana and is interrogating the tenth suspect. During the investigation, officials found that four numbers were permanently closed between January and August this year.
Maharashtra Police worried about numbers
A Maharashtra Police official said that we are concerned about those numbers as they are locked. We have collected their call details and the search is on to trace them. The official said the crime branch has not been able to ascertain where the message originated, but the IP location suggests it was from the UK. Well, we are not sure about the IP address as the sender probably used Virtual Private Network (VPN).
All efforts are being made to trace the origin of the message. Agency sources are not ruling out the terror angle as the investigation is still at a very early stage. The people being questioned so far in UP, Haryana, and Mumbai do not have any criminal background and the authorities have not found any suspicious activity in them in the recent past.
