On behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a chaadar will be offered at the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti on Saturday. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP Minority Morcha President Jamal Siddiqui will go to Ajmer with the chaadar. PM Modi will hand over the chaadar to them at 6 pm today.
The Prime Minister sends a chaadar to Ajmer Dargah every year on the Urs of the Sufi saint. The 813th Urs of Khwaja Saheb is going on from December 28. Since becoming the Prime Minister, Modi has offered chaadar ten times at Ajmer Sharif Dargah. This will be the 11th time he will carry forward this tradition. Last year, during the 812th Urs, the then Union Minister Smriti Irani and Jamal Siddiqui offered chaadar at the dargah on behalf of the Prime Minister.
It is worth noting that the chaadar offered at the tomb (Mazar-e-Akhdas) of Khwaja Garib Nawaz is a symbol of devotion and respect. Offering chaadar during Urs is considered a powerful form of devotion, which is seen as a means of receiving blessings and fulfilling wishes. PM Modi's sending of Chadar this time is also important because it has been claimed that there is a temple in Ajmer Dargah. A case is going on in the court regarding this, which will be heard on January 24. Vishnu Gupta, the president of Hindu Rashtra Sena, who filed the petition, had appealed not to send Chadar.
