Pakistan has agreed to play India in Colombo on February 15th in the T20 World Cup, but the official announcement will be made today. Meanwhile, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla has issued a statement.
He praised the ICC's efforts and confirmed that the high-voltage match between India and Pakistan in the 2026 T20 World Cup will now be played in Colombo as scheduled.
What did Rajeev Shukla say about the IND vs. PAK match?
In fact, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, speaking to reporters on February 10th, called it a "victory for cricket." He said that the way the ICC has negotiated with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and found a middle ground is commendable.
Shukla also said,
This is very good news for all of us. The talks held by ICC representatives in Lahore have yielded a positive outcome. The Pakistan team will now take the field in the match to be held in Colombo on February 15th. The ICC has broken this deadlock by prioritizing cricket, and they deserve praise for it. - Rajiv Shukla
Understand the entire controversy
The entire matter stems from the BCCI's order to KKR to release Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the team for IPL 2026, after which the Bangladesh government decided that its national team would not travel to India for the T20 World Cup.
The Bangladesh cricket team had requested the ICC to move its matches outside India, citing security concerns. After the ICC rejected this demand and expelled Bangladesh from the tournament, Pakistan threatened to boycott the match against India in solidarity. However, the matter has now been resolved.
The Pakistan government gives a green signal
On Monday, the Pakistan government formally directed its team to take the field against India. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi informed Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif about discussions with the ICC and other stakeholders, which led to this decision. The Pakistani Prime Minister also spoke with the Sri Lankan President during the meeting.
Following Pakistan's U-turn on its decision, Rajiv Shukla expressed confidence that the World Cup will be a great success. He said that Bangladesh's concerns have also been heard, and their board has been given some relief, which they are now satisfied with.
