Why is Rashtrapati Nilayam important?

It is noteworthy that the President stays at the Rashtrapati Nilayam at least once a year and conducts official business from there. It was constructed in 1860 as the country house of the British Resident in Secunderabad. After the merger of Hyderabad State with India in 1948, it became the residence of the President. Mir Osman Ali Khan, the then Raj Pramukh of Hyderabad, officially handed over President Nilayam to the government on August 14, 1955. Thus it has become the third official residence of the President after Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi and Rashtrapati Niwas in Shimla.
