Prez Lee's India Visit: Korean Guests Welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan; Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung is currently on a visit to India. On Monday, he was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed the state guests from South Korea. Additionally, President Lee visited Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

 

 

President Lee is accompanied by South Korea’s First Lady, Kim Keon-hee. The Ministry of External Affairs has described President Lee’s visit as a significant milestone in advancing the Special Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

 

 

Key Bilateral Meeting with PM Modi

President Lee is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi today. The two leaders will discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including shipbuilding, trade, investment, AI, and semiconductors. They will also deliberate on critical and emerging technologies, people-to-people ties, and cultural exchanges.

 

 

Discussions on Key Issues between Foreign Minister Jaishankar and President Lee

Earlier, on Sunday, upon his arrival at the Delhi airport, President Lee was welcomed by Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra. Subsequently, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with President Lee. Mr. Jaishankar appreciated President Lee’s commitment to deepening India-Korea relations across multiple domains. He expressed confidence that President Lee’s talks with Prime Minister Modi would further strengthen the Special Strategic Partnership.

 

 

Important Meetings and Discussions on Bilateral Issues

Prime Minister Modi will also host a luncheon in honor of the visiting leader this afternoon. President Lee is also scheduled to hold talks with President Droupadi Murmu. A banquet will also be hosted at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Furthermore, President Lee will visit Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

 

 

Expansion of Partnership and Future Prospects

It is noteworthy that last November, Prime Minister Modi met with the South Korean President on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. This marked the second meeting between the two leaders, following their interaction at the G7 Summit in Canada in 2025.
