Sitting on the Field, Vaibhav Suryavanshi Weeps Bitterly

The viral video, filmed from behind, shows Vaibhav—wearing jersey number 3—looking both dejected and emotional. At times, he removes his cap to hide his face, while at others, he is seen wiping away his tears. Meanwhile, a KKR teammate runs over to him and offers support. Placing a hand on his shoulder, the individual appears to be consoling Vaibhav, reminding him that in sports, victory and defeat are two sides of the same coin. This 16-second video is spreading rapidly across social media platforms.

Rajasthan Royals’ Second Defeat of the Current Season

Sunday’s match between Kolkata and Rajasthan at Eden Gardens provided yet another of just how quickly the tide can turn in a T20 game. Chasing a modest target of 156 runs, Kolkata found themselves in deep trouble at one stage, having lost six wickets for a mere 85 runs.

At the crease were Rinku Singh (unbeaten on 53)—who had been struggling with poor form—and lower-order batsman Anukul Roy (unbeaten on 29). They still required 71 runs for victory. Rinku finally rediscovered his form as a ‘finisher,’ while Anukul also shone brightly, guiding Kolkata to a four-wicket victory.

Spinner Varun Chakravarthy’s haul of three wickets also played a pivotal role in this victory. On the opposing side, Kartik Tyagi delivered a brilliant bowling performance, claiming three wickets for Rajasthan Royals. This marks Kolkata’s first victory of the current season. Prior to this, they had suffered five defeats, while one match ended in a no-result after being washed out by rain. Meanwhile, this is Rajasthan’s second consecutive defeat.

Rinku in His Vintage Avatar

After a long hiatus, Rinku appeared in the very avatar that cricket enthusiasts love to see him in. Nine runs were required in the final over. Rinku leveled the match by smashing a boundary off the very first two deliveries bowled by Brijesh Sharma.

Watching his batting, it became evident that he intended to finish the match in his own signature style; consequently, he did not attempt to take a single run off the third delivery, even though Anukul had stepped out of his crease and advanced a considerable distance. Rinku sealed the victory on the fourth ball by smashing a six over the wicketkeeper’s head, thereby also completing his first half-century of the current season. His innings of 34 balls featured five fours and two sixes.

Thus, powered by an unbroken 7th-wicket partnership of 76 runs off 37 balls between Rinku (53* off 34 balls; 5 fours, 2 sixes) and Anukul Roy (29* off 16 balls; 2 sixes, 1 four), the team successfully chased down the target, reaching 161 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 19.4 overs, thereby securing KKR’s first victory of the season.
