RCB defeated LSG by 5 wickets in the 23rd match of IPL 2026, securing their fourth victory of the season. Batting first in this match, the Lucknow team was bowled out for 146 runs. In reply, Virat Kohli (49) displayed his class for RCB, guiding the team past the 50-run mark within just 5 overs. He was well supported by Devdutt Padikkal.
Captain Rajat was dismissed after scoring 27 runs, and RCB went on to win the match with 29 balls to spare. Following this defeat, Lucknow's stand-in captain, Nicholas Pooran, expressed his disappointment during the post-match presentation.
RCB vs LSG: What did Nicholas Pooran say after the defeat?
In the absence of Rishabh Pant—who is sidelined due to injury—Lucknow Super Giants' stand-in captain, Nicholas Pooran, stated after the loss that they were unable to put a competitive total on the board. He remarked
"This season has been quite challenging for us; specifically, our performance with the bat has not been up to expectations. Had we managed to score around 175 runs, we could have put up a strong fight. However, it is no secret that we have been struggling with our batting throughout the season, and today, we paid the price for that."
Pooran further added:
"This is T20 cricket—a challenging format. It is difficult to perform consistently well here. However, our players are truly working hard, and they deserve credit for that. We will continue to fight. I believe it is merely a matter of time. We just need to remain patient, wait for our opportunity, and seize it with responsibility." — Nicholas Pooran.
It is worth noting that Lucknow's batting performance against RCB was the primary reason for their defeat. Nicholas Pooran—whom Lucknow had retained for a sum of ₹21 crore—was dismissed after facing just 7 deliveries and scoring a mere 1 run in the match. Josh Hazlewood stumped him, dealing a major blow to Lucknow. Regarding his batting, Pooran said in the post-match presentation,
"I'm feeling good, and the ball is coming on to the bat. Unfortunately, things haven't gone my way so far in the tournament. But it's happened before. I've been in this situation before and know how to fight back. I'm confident I'll get through this rough patch."
